We were asked to take two different font types and play around with them in square grids until they were unrecognisable. We were only allowed to use two different letters. I found this task very interesting as i didn’t realise how hard it would be to position a letter and change its size to make sure it couldn’t be identified .
Im pleased with how the final images came out. I will continue to play on this subject
Anatomy and Structure
The anatomy and structure of type is imperative. There are so many different ways that a piece of work can be portrayed. By having a structure it allows you to portray the message you want to be acknowledged by everyone as there are set rules.
Pangram
We were given a brief to create a A3 poster of the Pangram ‘ The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog’. A Pangram is a sentence that includes every letter from the alphabet. It is used to train people on speed typing.
I had a play around with different ways that i could make the letters play up to their meanings.
I used 3 different type faces:
Desdemona
Birds of Paradise
Bradley Hand Bold
I was playing around with a box over the first letter as you would see in a book at the start of a chapter. This then gave me an idea of playing around with colour and perspective.
For the word quick i elongated the letters to make it look at though it was moving. I changed colours of the words to link in with their characters. I painted and drew a foxes tail on the word fox to add to the element. I also purposely chose Birds of Paradise font for the word ‘Fox’ as it has that elegant english feel associated with those animals.
I kept dog and fox in the same font as i felt as though it would work in showing they were both in the same category of animals.
The word lazy is on its side to portray a lack of conforming. Being lazy is normally associated with being horizontal and laying down so i tried to make it look as though it was laying down.
